Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras Diving and Eco Family Trip 2016

When I arrived at Roatan Island I’d never been to the Caribbean before, and I’d never been to a dive resort. Turquoise Bay Dive Resort on the northern side of Roatan Island was my little pocket of paradise.

Every moment I spent at this resort was both exciting and relaxing. Throughout the week, members of the resort’s all-star staff greeted me and engaged in conversation, making me feel welcome.

And the food at the on-site restaurant was spectacular. Talented chefs created a wide spread of local dishes and fresh fruit for us to enjoy.

We went diving in the mornings. The onsite dive shop has a crew of experienced dive professionals and boat captains who were happy to accommodate our requests to explore sites further away from the resort. We piled into the resort’s vans and drove to different parts of the island to enjoy varying conditions.

There was always something fun to do after diving, and our team took full advantage of it. Throughout the week, you’d find us relaxing in a hammock on the beach with a cold drink, snorkeling in the warm quiet water in front of the resort, kayaking to the offshore mangrove forests, horseback riding through a nearby village or zip lining through the rainforest canopy!

The wildlife and sheer beauty of this location slowed us all down to island time. We could leave our worries behind and experience the peace and tranquility of the island and it’s lifestyle.

Don’t let the word “resort” fool you. There are plenty of opportunities to experience true Roatan culture at Turquoise bay. Dancers and musicians came from a nearby village to perform with us. We even had the opportunity to dance with them too! We also enjoyed plenty of excursions out of the resort and one day ended up on an offshore island for a BBQ with the locals.

Turquoise bay is the perfect place to enjoy the privacy and comfort of a luxury resort while still immersing in island culture.
