Diving the Komodo Archipelago in Indonesia is the BEST in the world for action, biodiversity, and excitement. Many of the oceanic current superhighways merge here, mixing the cold water from the south and warm tropical waters. The currents bring nutrients and food, making Komodo a concentrated area of both big and small marine animals. You will see marine life that you wouldn’t see anywhere else in the world! Plus, on land, you will see the world's largest lizard, the Komodo dragon. It is not surprising that Komodo was chosen as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature.
Ocean Safari has thoughtfully designed this trip over the last few years with our friend, the owner of the best dive boat in Indonesia, the Arenui boutique liveaboard. We chose to visit during the best season (August to September) which offers the most excellent diving and the calmest weather. Our custom route will cover all the best dive sites in the entire archipelago: starting from the western gateway in Bima, diving around Northern Komodo including a live volcano, venturing south to see Mantas, and ending at Labuan Bajo in the east. Komodo has the best Manta ray diving in the world, and seeing hundreds of them is guaranteed! Komodo diving is a MUST if you are a hardcore diving adventurer!
In addition to Komodo diving, there is an optional one day extension trip to see the Bali Sunfish at the start of the expedition. You will fly to Bali one day earlier for a two tanks dive with these majestic animals. Weighing over 2200 lbs on average, the sunfish is the heaviest known bony fish. It can reach a size of over 8 feet in length. Although these magnificent creatures can be encountered around the globe, the ones encountered in Bali are the largest, and you are almost guaranteed to see them there in August.
